January 20, 2008 was the Holy Ashura, a religious festival of real significance celebrated by the Shiite (Shia) Muslim community around the world. There is a substantial Shiite community in Bangladesh who celebrate the occasion every year with a lot of zeal and passion. The festival's most attractive part is the colourful Tazia Procession. Quite a few processions are held at different areas of Dhaka City. Mohammadpur area of Dhaka was one of the centre points of such colourful and attractive celebrations. These pictures are all taken from Tazia Procession at Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The Procession started in the fading light of the late winter afternoon and went on well into the night. The pictures give an indication to the amount of effort that goes behind organising a Procession like this.
